Experience

Brad focuses his law practice on civil trials and appeals, including business litigation, personal and business disputes, construction and development litigation, and creditors’ rights and collections. He represents clients in all state and federal trial and appellate courts, in bankruptcy matters, before administrative agencies, and in mediation and arbitration. He is one of a small percentage of Richmond attorneys admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Brad handles cases that are unusual or don’t fit a pattern. Because of his strong track record representing clients in difficult and unique matters, many of his clients are referred to him by other lawyers and law firms across Virginia. His clients include individuals, business owners, entrepreneurs, developers, realtors, construction companies, subcontractors, physicians, and lenders.

Some of Brad’s representative matters include acting on behalf of clients who were defrauded by a small web-based mortgage lender; forging a settlement for a client victimized by a hospital fire so as to improve quality of life both for the client and for her Down’s Syndrome child; managing the accounts receivable of a client’s debtor so as to generate funds to pay; and defending a general contractor against claims of project mismanagement, so as to get the contractor all the money it had sought.

In many cases, clients have first come to Brad facing threats to their personal finances, or even to the survival of their businesses.  His track record makes them lifelong clients.  The process begins by working with the client to understand the problem and its potential impact, then defines an achievable goal that will meet the client’s needs, develops a strategy to reach that goal, and implements that strategy to reach the goal on a financially sound basis.

Brad was formerly a member of the Virginia General Assembly, serving in the House of Delegates (2002-2006), where he sat on the Courts of Justice; Health, Welfare & Institutions; and Counties, Cities & Towns committees. He served as a member of the Virginia Housing Commission and the Mandated Health Benefits Commission and in several other appointed public service roles.

In his spare time, Brad now co-manages a travel baseball program for high school players talented enough to pursue college scholarships, helping them to reach their goals as well.  Before that, Brad spent many years helping younger players to develop their skills so that they could play at the high school and collegiate levels. 

Brad’s convictions on being a strong lawyer line up with his principles of baseball – to succeed requires a lot of thinking and work before game time, in order to be prepared for whatever challenges may be encountered.
